Hello, It’s Me

Greetings and salutations friends,

My name is Sierra-Joy for those of whom do not know my real name. I am the gal behind BigCityDreamer, aka bcitydreamer aka, BCD. If you are wondering what the significance of the name is, do let me explain. I love any city environment; thus BCD was created.

Let the vulnerability begin:

– Surface level questions and answers are my PET PEEVE.

-I basically learned how to walk from skiing, then right after switched to shredding. side note, I regret listening to others, or else I would be pro.

-I  have a massive love for photography. Anything and everything, I love capturing moments.

-I’ve always had a hard time with speech but recently it’s been bad, so social anxiety is kind of a thing now… adding yet another thing to “what’s wrong with Sierra” list. LOLZ.

-Grey is my favorite color because black, is well, black and white is just asking to get dirty, so grey it is.

-I am 25% Japanese and really effing proud of it.

-Singing is my jam, get it… so are puns.

-I am extremely competitive.

-I am an adrenaline babe.

-It takes me a bit to get scared but I hate surprises… hmm ironic?

-Long evening walks are my thing, especially on beaches.-Jesus is my savior.

-Jesus is my savior but other religions/faiths fascinate me.

-Podcasts, period.

-One day I want to be married, adopt a few kids and have a massive home that can host people who are in need of the basic essentials.

-I’ve never had a proper boyfriend/been in love.

-Matured quickly thus, didn’t really have a childhood.

-Grew up in a household w/o TV so had to be creative from the start.

-I hate stuff. If you don’t use it, get rid of it.

-I’m allergic to alcohol but do not get affected by tequila. Shots anyone?

-I strongly dislike social media

-This kiwi lifestyle has made me prone to swearing.

-Anything outdoors lets go.

-I’m turning 23 in two months and am thinking I’ll have my mid-life crisis sooner rather than later. Oh, yah did I mention, I really don’t like birthdays or holidays for that matter.

-The more I get comfortable, the louder I am. Ok fine, I’m just a loud person.

-I am EXTREMELY sarcastic.

-Call me at 3am, ill listen.

-Quit uni after my second year and two years later, I’m going back for my teaching degree, then masters.

-Professional people watcher should be added to my resume.

-People drive me nuts.

-Oh yeah, I forgot to mention as well, I love fashion.

Ok, that’s a lot… but it makes up for the fact I answered in short responses. Essentially it would’ve been this long otherwise.

Here’s a snippet of the other side of my fashionista self. Hope this helps you get to know me a tad better and if you can relate, rock on.

What’s Next?

The fight of the century just happened. Mayweather against McGregor. Each party will make millions no matter what, winning or losing. Mayweather is 49-0 coming out of retirement, however, making it 50-0 from this win of this fight. Whilst McGregor is basically the top dog of UFC fighting, he had a great fight. After the hoe down, each party is now millions richer with the winner bringing home an alligator belt and an even bigger stack of millions.

Ok. Cool. An alligator belt is pretty awesome not going to lie. Then, making millions isn’t half bad either. Here comes the but. But, after all, that is said and done, what’s next? When you are undefeated, what’s next? When you have more money than you know what to do with, what’s next? If your identity is wrapped up in what you do, what’s next?

Living a luxuries lifestyle probably has its perks but also has its downsides as well.

What do you do when you have it all? When you can get anything you want whenever you want, what’s next? Having the money, having the fame, having the trophies, the belts etc, again, it’s probably nice. However, maybe for that second while you soak in the fact you have just won X,Y,Z.

The next day, week, month, even year comes. Ok? So, you’ve reached the peak… what’s next? I can’t imagine living the lifestyle of having it all and knowing that’s where my identity is found because it can be gone in an instant. It’s all really just stuff when you think about it. Nice, man-made, dust collecting, stuff. When it comes to careers, trophies, tangible acknowledgments, we humans invest so much into that stuff and that’s where we get our satisfaction from majority of the time. Why? Why do we invest so much into that when it’s not going to matter in about a week? You’re always going to want more, but when you’ve reached all the more you can have, what’s next? What’s the purpose of investing into things that will fade, break and disappear? It’s clearly temporary satisfaction and to be honest, who really wants that? It’s almost like a trick to make you “happy” but in reality, is it really making you happy, is it making you a better person, is it helping you in any way or even the world for that matter? If the answer is no to any of these, you may want to rethink what the purpose is of getting so involved with this stuff we call entertainment, life, careers, experiences…you get the picture.

What would happen if we invested all our passion into that x,y or z and heck, even pursue something that could possibly be eternal? It could be everlasting, it could be constant, it could be forever? Talk about full satisfaction. It could potentially help you in the long run rather than just for a second. How literally life-changing could that be for you. For me. For us? How great would it be to know that you can go beyond the peak? You don’t need more to have it, you can just be where you are right now and be eternally set.

To be continued…

sniff sniff** Do you smell that? That’s the smell of fresh kiwi coffee being brewed.

whoosh*** Do you hear that? That’s the sound of the low tide creeping up on the beach.

crunch crunch*** Do you feel that? That’s the sand thats still stuck in your shoes from the other weekend’s play.

This is what my life has been like the past few. I don’t think I’ve ever really embraced my surroundings as much as I have been. From smells, to feelings, to noises, it’s actually quite beautiful. The stillness is actually quite beautiful. The stillness is actually quite refreshing.

When you have no other choice then to embrace your surroundings it can actually be quite pleasant and not as miserable as you’d assume. However, this change of perspective did not happen over night. It’s been in the works (still is) for months. I’ve almost had to force myself and allow myself all at once to slow down and just be. With doing so, I’ve been able to embrace the still small moments of life.

Wake up and smell the roses darling. Life isn’t as half bad! You don’t need an ocean, coffee or a new place to start have a new perspective. All you need is your mind and the desire to make that change, since you are the only one who has the control to do so. Forget the feelings of “I don’t feel changed” or I don’t feel like doing it today. If you rely on the feelings, you are already failing before you start. Embrace your work environment today, the fact you have a paycheck to allow you to have food and a roof over your head. Embrace the yummy food you get to eat every day or how about the nice clean water you get to shower in every day, might I say warm water if you’re lucky. Embrace the car that gets you to point a to point b instead of walking thru hot hot days or blistering freezing cold days.

Once you change that perspective of yours, life honestly starts to get more simple, more beautiful and more abundant.

Winter Goods

I’ve never experienced a winter where you can wear dresses and open toe heels. It’s absurd yet totally cool all at the same time. I’m not complaining, well maybe sometimes if its really cold but that’s not the point. The point today is to share my goods that I purchased at *surprise surprise* Zara. Back story: I’ve been watching GG lately, and really have been focusing on the fashion, so I tried to stick to what would GG wear manta for this spree. Without further ado, here are my goods.

  • As I start to ascend in my adult years, I am trying to wear more dresses/I really enjoy dresses heaps more now. This v-neck babydoll dress is PERFECT for layering with those chunky knit sweaters. Or if it’s a tad warmer, that crop cotton T you have will pair just as perfectly. Also, this dress reminded me of Blair and Serena put together. What do you think?

Fun fact: This dress has pockets. Sold.

  • My eye was caught to the ruching of this beautiful beautiful jumpsuit. Have you ever seen a jumpsuit with chord locks?? On an even more exciting note, it fits me in vertical length as well, which never ever happens. So thank you Zara for making appropriate fitting jumpsuits for vertically challenged people. (Serena inspired)

  • I’m not sure what’s been up with me, but ya girl has been really intrigued with velvet blush pink. Yah, I know, right? I made an acceptation because I told myself colour is needed in my wardrobe, thus, the shoes had to be bought. They are so fun, with them being velvet and platform as well. You can definitely rock the socks in these heels or go all nude. Winning all around. (Vanessa inspired)

I also still try to buy pieces that I can wear together instead one time. Platform shoes go really well with jumpsuits to add height if the leg is a little too long. Also, baby doll dresses look very chic with platform shoes. They create a more appropriate aged looking outfit, rather than looking 12 again.

Again cannot be more thrilled to be wearing these kind of pieces in winter. Really looking forward to rocking these velvet babes in the sunshine!!
