Hello, It’s Me

Greetings and salutations friends,

My name is Sierra-Joy for those of whom do not know my real name. I am the gal behind BigCityDreamer, aka bcitydreamer aka, BCD. If you are wondering what the significance of the name is, do let me explain. I love any city environment; thus BCD was created.

Let the vulnerability begin:

– Surface level questions and answers are my PET PEEVE.

-I basically learned how to walk from skiing, then right after switched to shredding. side note, I regret listening to others, or else I would be pro.

-I  have a massive love for photography. Anything and everything, I love capturing moments.

-I’ve always had a hard time with speech but recently it’s been bad, so social anxiety is kind of a thing now… adding yet another thing to “what’s wrong with Sierra” list. LOLZ.

-Grey is my favorite color because black, is well, black and white is just asking to get dirty, so grey it is.

-I am 25% Japanese and really effing proud of it.

-Singing is my jam, get it… so are puns.

-I am extremely competitive.

-I am an adrenaline babe.

-It takes me a bit to get scared but I hate surprises… hmm ironic?

-Long evening walks are my thing, especially on beaches.-Jesus is my savior.

-Jesus is my savior but other religions/faiths fascinate me.

-Podcasts, period.

-One day I want to be married, adopt a few kids and have a massive home that can host people who are in need of the basic essentials.

-I’ve never had a proper boyfriend/been in love.

-Matured quickly thus, didn’t really have a childhood.

-Grew up in a household w/o TV so had to be creative from the start.

-I hate stuff. If you don’t use it, get rid of it.

-I’m allergic to alcohol but do not get affected by tequila. Shots anyone?

-I strongly dislike social media

-This kiwi lifestyle has made me prone to swearing.

-Anything outdoors lets go.

-I’m turning 23 in two months and am thinking I’ll have my mid-life crisis sooner rather than later. Oh, yah did I mention, I really don’t like birthdays or holidays for that matter.

-The more I get comfortable, the louder I am. Ok fine, I’m just a loud person.

-I am EXTREMELY sarcastic.

-Call me at 3am, ill listen.

-Quit uni after my second year and two years later, I’m going back for my teaching degree, then masters.

-Professional people watcher should be added to my resume.

-People drive me nuts.

-Oh yeah, I forgot to mention as well, I love fashion.

Ok, that’s a lot… but it makes up for the fact I answered in short responses. Essentially it would’ve been this long otherwise.

Here’s a snippet of the other side of my fashionista self. Hope this helps you get to know me a tad better and if you can relate, rock on.

No Makeup, No Makeup look.

For some of us, acne, pimples, blackheads and even those nasty devil bumps I like to call whiteheads are presented to us during our lifetime. Believe it or not I, too, suffer from such atrocious blackhead spreads and acne breakouts from time to time… still. Having the genes of my mother has allowed me to have some-what great skin throughout my life thus far, so when I break out, I BREAK OUT with a couple massive creators on my face. A brown paper bag can’t even help, those suckers suck.

When it comes to beauty routines, it blows my mind by some beauty bloggers and what they use. Heaps of products, multiple masks, etc etc. I understand exfoliation is brilliant, but once in awhile because if you do it too aggressively you will actually remove the good oils in your skin that will then cause you to break out that much more since you have too open of pores… or something like that.

To be informed: Every time I use St. Ives, I am never let down with how well it works. I started using this face wash about 10 years ago. No face scrub will actually remove your zits like magic, but I can let you in on a secret about St. Ives. ONCE YOU’RE CLEAN, YOU’RE CLEAN!

Ditch the multiple toners, the cleansers, the masks, the wrinkle creams (cos we all know that doesn’t really work) and keep it simple. Even though some products may say anti-ageing or anti-wrinkle heck, even tightening formation, think to yourself, that can’t possibly be good for your skin or the environment. I swear by this routine, I rarely wear makeup these days. Mascara, sure but foundation BYE FELECIA. Only special occasions do I wear makeup but that’s beside the point. A clear face is a free face, ayyyyy

So… want baby bum smooth face. Then follow these life tips: I also do this routine twice a day, every day if you’re a curious cat.

Side note: When I want to chill out and do masks, I use St. Ives Nourished and Smooth Oatmeal scrub and mask. It works WONDERS babe.

We shall begin:

  • Put about a quarter size of scrub on zeee hands.

  • Scrub scrub scrub St. Ives gently. It is a 3 out of 5 on the exfoliator scale. For a good minute

  • The last step to looking like you just came outta the womb. Lotion that face up sweet cheeks. Get it… cos cheeks and womb. Geez, I am hilarious. && you’re done.

Winter Goods

I’ve never experienced a winter where you can wear dresses and open toe heels. It’s absurd yet totally cool all at the same time. I’m not complaining, well maybe sometimes if its really cold but that’s not the point. The point today is to share my goods that I purchased at *surprise surprise* Zara. Back story: I’ve been watching GG lately, and really have been focusing on the fashion, so I tried to stick to what would GG wear manta for this spree. Without further ado, here are my goods.

  • As I start to ascend in my adult years, I am trying to wear more dresses/I really enjoy dresses heaps more now. This v-neck babydoll dress is PERFECT for layering with those chunky knit sweaters. Or if it’s a tad warmer, that crop cotton T you have will pair just as perfectly. Also, this dress reminded me of Blair and Serena put together. What do you think?

Fun fact: This dress has pockets. Sold.

  • My eye was caught to the ruching of this beautiful beautiful jumpsuit. Have you ever seen a jumpsuit with chord locks?? On an even more exciting note, it fits me in vertical length as well, which never ever happens. So thank you Zara for making appropriate fitting jumpsuits for vertically challenged people. (Serena inspired)

  • I’m not sure what’s been up with me, but ya girl has been really intrigued with velvet blush pink. Yah, I know, right? I made an acceptation because I told myself colour is needed in my wardrobe, thus, the shoes had to be bought. They are so fun, with them being velvet and platform as well. You can definitely rock the socks in these heels or go all nude. Winning all around. (Vanessa inspired)

I also still try to buy pieces that I can wear together instead one time. Platform shoes go really well with jumpsuits to add height if the leg is a little too long. Also, baby doll dresses look very chic with platform shoes. They create a more appropriate aged looking outfit, rather than looking 12 again.

Again cannot be more thrilled to be wearing these kind of pieces in winter. Really looking forward to rocking these velvet babes in the sunshine!!

Zara will always have a space in my closet, if not the whole closet. One day…

love anything that is from Zara or inspired by Zara. The pieces that are made and shown in each collection are stunning. From the basics, to the wacky pieces, Zara is truly fashion to the less fortunate haha just kidding. NOT REALLY.

Lately I’ve had an obsession with tops that you can layer, surprise surprise. Zara was having a sale (I know Zara… having a sale? what?!) I had to limit myself for the sack of my sanity and my wallet, to two pieces.

  • I picked this leather knitwear top, for many reasons. It is versatile from a vest, to a top, to a layered piece. 3 in 1, please come again. It can be worn at anytime for any occasion. Simple & Sweet.

  • I saw this beauty enclosed between other denim but I was struck at the ruffle that I saw poking out. UM, YES. How intriguing is this top? Talk about out dressing outside the box. Pieces like this can be intimidating to some, but honestly it’s just like a basic white T. You wear the clothes, do not let the clothes wear you! Surprisingly with this top, you can go wild with the bottoms or keep it simple with all one color or fabric, DENIM ON DENIM, baby. One thing I am obsessed about this top, is you can keep the jewelry at a bare minimum and let the shirt do all the talking. #ThatSimpleLife.  but truly, less is more.

on another note: why can’t we have more Zara’s in this state? I think we fashionistas should start a petition to have some more built, yes? YES.
